You sat on the grass quietly, the wind blowing against the field with a soft whisper. The moon glowered above hugging your shadow, possessing light onto the hazy night. Nightmare had told you to wait for him, after he was done with whatever he needed to, before talking you about something. Left in suspense, you waited at the location he had informed you of.

The silence was echoing as the breeze carried the faintest of sounds, until a crackling caught you attention. Turning your head, your gaze was focused on the sudden burst flame sourcing from the village. Smoke slithered up in the air as you could hear distant screams of distress from the villagers, the fire expanding further into the other houses.

You didn’t even spot Nightmare wickedly strolling over to you while the flames engulfed what was left, the people and the land. It was only till a large tendril wrapped around your chin to direct your head towards him, a sinister grin broad on his skull. He retracted his grasp before bringing your hand up to his face and placing a gentle kiss on your knuckles.

“I shouldn’t have fallen in love, but I just can’t let you go.”

Nightmare admitted with a thoughtful sigh, turning his eyelight to the still roaring fire. His smile curled further from amusement while he glanced back over to your expression.

“I’d let the world burn for you, darling. If I can’t have you, then no one can.”
