Kyle never liked being born as royalty. The rules are too strict, too many of the working class have tried to kill him when things get tough, and he can’t even choose his own spouse. He’s been promised to some princess from a neighbouring kingdom since he was born.
So he started to rebel. Only in little ways of course. Well it started in little ways. Grabbing the wrong fork at dinner while important officials were joining them, wearing the wrong shoes with his suits, not bowing to his own father. Soon that wasn’t enough. Soon he started sneaking out and changing into peasant clothes in a random alcove so he can walk among the common folk
He's never felt more alive.
Wandering through the market, buying fresh bread and eating it while watching the hustle and bustle of the day. It makes him wonder how his father can be so demeaning towards these people, these people upon whom their kingdom has been built upon. He’s not dumb, even if his father doesn’t seem to understand this, he knows his lifestyle wouldn't be sustainable without their work and taxes. The highlight of his week is always when he manages to sneak away to spend a few hours mingling with the people his father dismisses as unimportant.
Then he met you and suddenly every single moment he thought was the most grand experience of his life paled in comparison. You’re a travelling merchant, going from kingdom to kingdom across the Silk Road to trade and sell as a living. You hold knowledge from abroad and Kyle could spend days listening to you regale him with stories of academics and philosophers that he’d never heard of before.
Then you had to leave. Everything suddenly felt dull and he couldn’t even find joy in making some posh git appalled because he used a desert fork for his fish. You had to continue on your way to continue making your living. Normally it would be months before you returned to a kingdom but this time you just couldn’t stay away. You returned after just a few weeks and it didn’t take long for Kyle to find you again. Before you could even truly settle he was standing in front of the small cart you sell from.
“Take me with you.” He says in lieu of greeting. “I’ve already decided that I want to leave this all behind to be with you. I want to travel with you. I want to be yours, I don’t want to be the husband of some princess who would surely make me miserable.”
