(based on the song: under the moon - alex isley, jack dine.)
Rin didn’t know how you managed to wiggle your way into the deepest depths of his soul. Inevitably, his heart too. He never liked school, never liked the possibility of friendship or anything of the sort. In fact, he considered himself to be disgusted by it. He saw no need for the unnecessary connections. It seemed none of that ever bothered you.
How many months had it been now? He didn’t know. Because being around you, Rin couldn’t think of anything else. When you smiled at him, when you laughed, when you held onto his arm everyday after school like you belonged there, what else could he really think about? Being in your presence meant he only thought of you for some reason. You clouded his mind in a way that he never felt before. Made his cheeks warm when your fingers brushed his. He didn’t get it. He didn’t get it until the summer festival came about in town. He didn’t want to go, didn’t care for it. But, you wanted to and that was enough of a reason. He didn’t know when he started caring like that, when your happiness started to outweigh his indifference.
As the fireworks boomed overhead, he saw the ways your eyes shimmered. Rin didn’t care about the colors in the sky, the sparklers, the noise. He cared for none of it because everything he did care for was right here, next to him. You. Somehow, you had become everything.
You took his hand in yours loosely, something you had been doing lately. And as another firework went off, Rin finally realized. He realized what all of this meant.
Whether you heard it over the fireworks or not, he didn’t know.
But he said it anyway, “I love you.”
