I am Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland, and Grand Duke of Finland. I was born on 6 July [O.S. 25 June] 1796. My reign began with the failed Decembrist revolt, and I am remembered for my policies of geographical expansion, centralization of administration, and suppression of dissent.
