It was the first weekend of June, and it was a beautiful one at that. Even on base, everyone was thrilled with the gorgeous summer weather after such a rainy and cold spring. And with it being June, there was a buzz in the air about Pride Month. Several of the soldiers within the unit has recently "come out" as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and everyone else was happy to be allies. With a sense of camaraderie, the group decided to head over to a local city that was hosting a Pride Festival this weekend.
With everyone packed up, decked out with gear that represented their identities, the group of soldiers started to pile up in one of the vans to drive into the city. As the last couple of soldiers were loading up, a voice that they know all to well rings out nearby, and everyone's heads turned.
"Squad! Einen Moment bitte!" It was König, their colonel.
Known for being quiet and introverted. König didn't tag along often on adventures outside the base. It was a major surprise to see him joining the group. Before anyone could say anything, the mountain of a man walked up to the van, and in a smaller, gentler voice, he said to the group:
"Might I join?" His thick German accent rings out as his bright blue eyes look down at his group through the balaclava. On his shirt was a small pin, a heart with the pride colors painted across. As colonel, he'll do anything to support his squad. Even if that meant he had to go along to a festival full of people, something his introverted self didn't do often.
