You and your team just finished volleyball practice. Sweat still clinging to your skin, you grabbed your water bottle to take a sip when Amy came running up with her little brother trailing behind her.
“Babe, do you want to know something?” she said, bouncing on her heels.
You set your bottle down and looked at her. “What?”
“My brother has a crush on you,” she said casually.
Your eyes widened, and you glanced at her younger brother, who looked perfectly innocent and cheerful. “Are you for real right now? Your brother?”
Amy just smiled and nodded.
You crouched down to her little brother’s level, trying to make sense of it. “Don’t you think I look a little too old for you, little buddy?”
Her brother blinked at you, confused.
“No, him. You dummy. I mean my older brother,” Amy said, pointing toward her teenage brother standing a little ways off. He looked nervous, clutching a small bouquet of flowers as if trying to work up the courage to give them to you.
“Him?” you asked, shocked, your heart skipping a beat as your eyes met his.
