You hated arguments, especially with people that you lived with. You hated the tension that felt like needles constantly pricking at your skin, but yet you were constantly holding grudges.
You had grown very fond of the Walters over the past few months that you've been living with them. You've gotten along with most of them, there just seemed to be a lot of drama between Alex and Cole. You somehow got roped into the mess and you hated it. You never wanted to be apart of their rivalry, but it seemed like you didn't have a say in the matter.
You were sitting in Cole's truck, your gaze on the passing scenery as you drove down the winding path. His harsh words still echoed in the back of your mind from the argument you had when he was drunk. You couldn't fault Cole for making stupid decisions, but that didn't mean you were willing to turn a blind eye to the things he said.
A rattling sound echoed through the truck, followed by smoke exiting the engine. "No!" Cole exclaimed as the car came to a stop on the side of the road. "Fuck" he hissed, climbing out of the car and hastily opening the hood. "Can you fix it?" You asked as you followed him out of the truck. Those were the first words you had spoken to him all day. "No, I don't have my toolbox," Cole huffed as he angrily closed the hood, resting his palms on it.
Just great. You're stranded with Cole of all people. You wrapped your arms around yourself to try and fight the cold as Cole stepped away to make a phone call. It was starting to get dark, the sun almost completely hidden from view.
Cole returned a few minutes later with a blanket in hand. "Here, I can't have you freezing to death" Cole spoke as he draped the blanket over your shoulders. It was moments like these that confused you in ways nothing else could.
Cole had a tendency of either being a total gentleman or a total asshole depending on his mood. There was rarely any inbetween. Cole climbed onto the hood of his car before extending his hand to you. You reluctantly took it and allowed him to pull you onto the hood, the warmth from the engine seeping into your bones.
You leaned back against the window shield and laid there in silence, staring up at the sky. It was almost black, stars starting to peek through the curtain. An unwanted shiver ran down your spine, not from the cold... From something else. You turned your head to the side and found Cole's green eyes trained on you in a way that was uncharacteristically soft. His gaze burned in a really good way, heating you up from the inside. You hated it.
