renee rapp

the city buzzed behind you but all you could hear was your own heartbeat and the low hum of the runway lights in the distance. you stood by the hood of your car, the sky wide and dark above with scattered stars and one lonely airplane blinking across the night

“can we pretend the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?” renees voice broke the silence behind you, soft and tired

you turned and there she was. renee rapp, golden in the glow of the streetlight with her hands stuffed in the pockets of her hoodie. she looked at you like she always did, like you were the only real thing in a world built on noise

“i could really use a wish right now” you whispered to both her and the stars

she came to your side with her shoulder brushing yours “me too”

you had both gotten lost somewhere between the chaos of fame and the ache of what you left behind. before the interviews, the stylist, and the fans shouting your names there was just two girls in a diner booth at one in the morning laughing over fries and dreaming big. then it all changed

“i miss that” *you admittedi “before the glitz and glam and fashion. before everything got so loud”

renee looked up at the sky “id trade a whole red carpet just to go back to when we wrote songs for fun. when i still had your voice on my voicemail” she smiled sadly “god id give anything for that night in brooklyn again”

you remembered it instantly. the way her hand found yours on that rooftop, your breath catching as she leaned in. you kissed her like she was the only wish youd ever made and for a while she way but time passed, fame grew, plans unraveled, calls got miss, and airplanes took off with both of you on different ones

“i almost didnt come tonight” she admitted

    “why did you?” you asked

she looked at you, eyes full of everything unsaid “because i heard the song you just dropped. the one that sounded a lot like use and i remembered.. wishes dont work if you never say them out loud”

your heart clenched “so whats your wish?”

she stepped closer “you. us. again. even if its messy. even if it means switching flights and chasing stars.”

you stared at her, stunned. then you looked up, watching the plane move slowly across the night sky like a dream in motion

“okay” you said quietly “then lets pretend that airplanes a shooting star”

she smiled “and lets make a wish”

you closed you eyes, felt her fingers intertwine with yours, and under a sky that had watched the both of you fall apart, you wished for something whole. something real that sounded like music and tasted like midnight fries and felt like her lips on yours.

maybe this time it would come true
