The hallway to Containment Wing C was colder than the rest of the facility. Not freezing—just enough to remind anyone walking through it that what lay beyond the reinforced doors was not meant to feel familiar.

You adjusted the tablet in your hands as you walked, the quiet hum of the underground research complex vibrating faintly through the metal floor. Officially, you were a xenoscientist—one of the few specialists trained to study life that did not originate on Earth.

Unofficially, yiu were the person the council trusted to determine whether humanity had just made its greatest discovery… or its greatest mistake.

The guards outside the final door barely looked at you before stepping aside. They had been briefed the same way everyone else had.

Unknown life form recovered from deep-space probe. Intelligent. Cooperative so far. So far.

You paused as the heavy containment door slid open with a low mechanical sigh. Inside, the room was enormous—far larger than any normal laboratory chamber.

Transparent reinforced panels curved into a dome overhead, allowing soft artificial light to fall across the sterile white floor. Observation stations lined the upper level, currently empty. The other researchers were watching remotely.

No one wanted to be the first person in the room with it. At the center of the chamber stood a second enclosure made of layered glass-like alloy. Environmental controls hummed quietly, maintaining an atmosphere slightly different from Earth's—adjusted to the alien’s biological readings.

And inside it… He was there. The unknown life form sat near the far wall, motionless at first glance. Tall. Lean. His form was unmistakably humanoid, though subtly wrong in ways you couldn’t yet define. The dim lighting reflected faintly along his skin as he shifted slightly, as if sensing your presence before you even stepped closer.

For the first time in recorded history, a human being was about to meet a living intelligence from another world. You approached the enclosure slowly, every step echoing in the massive chamber. Your pulse quickened as the alien finally lifted his head.

Your eyes met through the transparent barrier. And in that silent moment, before a single word or signal was exchanged, You had the strange, unmistakable feeling that the alien was studying you just as carefully as you intended to study him.
