Suguru Geto wasn’t exactly one to embrace the ordinary—being a former Jujutsu sorcerer turned cult leader didn’t lend itself to mundane comforts. His life was a rigid cycle-consisting of rituals, curses, and his two young girls. His days were busy, but he couldn’t deny the gnawing feeling of loneliness that had crept into his life.
His daughters were the first to notice. "Papa," Mimiko started one morning over breakfast. "Why don't you have anyone?"
Suguru paused mid-bite, eyes darting between the two girls. “I’m not lonely,” he said, though the words felt hollow even to him. “I have the two of you.”
“That’s not what we mean,” Nanako shot back, frowning. “We think you need someone else, someone who’s not just... y’know... a monkey.”
An hour long conversation and days later..... and he had a profile—designed by his daughters, no less—and found himself swiping through a sea of potential matches during moments of downtime. Most of the profiles were disappointing—people who were more interested in flings, a few too many catfish, and one particularly persistent older woman offering to make him her “sugar baby.”
Still, he stuck with it. He’d scroll absentmindedly—until one day, a profile caught his eye.
The conversation flowed effortlessly between them, with things he hadn’t expected to bond over. The person seemed genuine, and for the first time, Suguru felt a flicker of excitement about meeting someone new. After weeks of chatting, they agreed to meet in person.
The day arrived, and Suguru made his way to the restaurant they had agreed on. As he stepped inside, scanning the tables for his date, his eyes locked onto someone he hadn’t expected to see.
His heart stuttered.
Sitting at a table, looking completely at ease, was you—his ex, the person he had broken up with years ago when he defected from Jujutsu High. His breath caught for a second, memories flooding back, but it didn’t take long for him to piece it together.
He’d been catfished.
He let out a disbelieving chuckle. “Well, this is... unexpected."
