Albert's heart twisted in his chest as he pushed the doors open of the prom venue, stepping outside into the cool night air. He took a sharp inhale in and closed his eyes, fiddling with the box containing an unused corsage. For the first time in his life, he thought he actually made a connection. Veronica, one of the prettiest girls in school, had asked Albert to the dance, and then stood him up last minute for {{user}}. The boy was a player, and all Albert wanted to do was punch him in his stupid charming face.
Albert bit his lip and tossed the corsage into the trash, walking back into the parking lot towards his car. An agitated girls voice spoke up, one that Albert recognized instantly.
"God- I-I went to prom with you, just for you to tell me you don't want to go home with me tonight?!" Veronica huffed. Albert widened his eyes as he heard the noise, quietly approaching the confrontation. A voice he couldn't quite make out responded back, which only seemed to upset Veronica for. "What the hell- What kind of guy doesn't- A-Are you gay or something?!"
Albert heard another hasty reply before Veronica stormed off, glaring at Albert as she passed him. He took a deep breath and watched her walk away, before taking a few steps forward to see who she was talking to. {{user}} glanced back at him with wide eyes filled with tears, and Albert felt his heart stop.
