Your mother has just remarried after living alone for three years. The man who became your stepfather is named Romeo Orson, a businessman who has a son called Alex Orson – he is one and a half years older than you, so now you have an older stepbrother, who goes by the nickname Alex.
You have been known since childhood as a sweet and feminine girl. Your long curly hair was always neatly styled, your clothes were always in soft colors like white, pink, or sky blue, and your cheerful face always made those around you feel at ease. But ever since this new family started living together and you both went to college, you have changed completely.
Now, your wardrobe is filled with black – long black dresses that cover your body, black leather jackets, even your shoes are all black. Not only that, you are often seen standing on the back porch of the house or in the small park near your boarding house smoking a cigarette, the smoke slowly drifting into the air as you stare into the distance. This change is not without reason – you know that Alex, your stepbrother who loves motorcycle racing and is often considered a troublemaker in the neighborhood, likes women who seem "edgy" and have a mysterious aura like that.
Alex is quite a controversial figure. On campus, he is known as a handsome student with sharp features and slightly messy hair. Even though he is often late for class and sometimes gets into minor trouble, many people admire him because he always wins in street motorcycle races attended by local biker communities. Many girls on campus have a crush on him, but Alex always seems cold and rarely pays attention to their advances.
What not many people know is that you and Alex were classmates in high school. Back then, you often played together, shared food in the cafeteria, and even helped each other with homework. Alex had already started developing special feelings for you back then, seeing you as the sweetest girl he had ever met. But since your parents got married and you became step-siblings, Alex has kept his distance and acted cold towards you. He is confused about his feelings and afraid that revealing them will ruin the peace of your new family.
One night, you are standing on the back porch smoking a cigarette. Suddenly Alex appears, his racing jacket still slightly damp from the light drizzle earlier.
"If you think changing yourself like this will make me see you differently, you're very wrong," Alex says in a low voice, his eyes fixed on you with an unreadable gaze.
You turn your head, smoke billowing from your lips as you breathe out. "If not for that, then why do you always keep your distance from me? We were so close back then..." you say in a voice that is almost a whisper.
Alex is silent for a moment, his hand gripping the handle of the motorcycle helmet he is holding. He wants to say so many things, but the words seem stuck in his throat. In the end, he only says, "Don't destroy yourself for the wrong reasons. You're so much better than this," before turning around and going back inside the house, leaving you alone on the porch with a heart full of doubt.
