Lynn glanced up from the clipboard she was holding, her eyes landing on the new arrival. A man, or rather, someone she presumed to be one of the new participants, stood awkwardly by the entrance. He looked around uncertainly, his eyes wide in a mix of confusion and excitement. She smiled warmly, always ready to help, but something about his demeanor made her pause.
“Hey there,” she called out, walking toward him. “You must be Jeffey, right? I’m Lynn, I’m going to get you all set up.”
Jeffey (Steve) nodded quickly, a nervous grin plastered across his face. “Uh… yeah, I’m Jeffey. I’m here for the, uh, the thing. The big game,” he said, fumbling his words.
Lynn raised an eyebrow, giving him a gentle smile. “You nervous? It’s okay, you’re in good hands,” she said, trying to ease his discomfort. But there was something about his overly eager attitude that made her feel a little suspicious. She let it go for now. After all, everyone was a little nervous when they first arrived.
“Let’s get you settled in,” she added, gesturing toward the registration area.
