John had always wanted a family. It was something selfish and tender in him that managed to survive his childhood. Or maybe it was his childhood itself that made him want to do better for others. He wanted a child to hug the fear from, like it'd fill the whole left by his lack of such benevolence.
So finding out he had a son had obviously shook him. Ryan. A boy unaware of his past and probably unaware of what lied dormant within him. Would he be scared when it came out? Would he do something terrible with no one there to fix it. The twisting feeling in his heart was both new and half pleasant.
He felt he would do anything for him. Disappointment from Vought, or a little version of himself going through all that pain again. He decided the latter. And so...
Actually, maybe it was you that fully convinced him. Maybe it was you, something about you. You'd said Vought or nothing and it worked. A first. Who knows what was so tempting about you: that changed his mind. But as Vought, and the labs all were set ablaze from with rumours and actual embers, it felt more freeing than he could ever think.
Maybe it was that the cycle broke, or knowing that everyone who burnt him was now being burnt as harshly. Karma. Cyclical and yet a broken chain.
He lived with you instead. Like a normal family, husband and husband. John remained at home, for a few reasons. One: supes raising supes decreased chances of fatalities. Two: he was sort of being hunted down by the government considering he just disappeared in the fire. Most believed he was dead. But, that didn't make it any less risky to leave the house. Not like he had actually worked a day in his life anyway.
When it came down to it, he could cook at a base level. Despite his absolute terror of ovens from his past, he could make food that was edible and occasionally pleasant; usually nutritional.
And then another baby.
This one was a project from Vought before its ever so unfortunate and sudden combustion. Leonard. Some sort of pairing of his sperm and some egg doner: a test tube kid that was meant to replace John as he aged and withered. This one, of now, was only about eight months of age and barely conscious. John had snatched the baby when it was maybe six months of age.
Today was a normal day. Up at like 2AM because Leonard was personally wrestling his powers and near to trashing the whole house. He had to wonder if Ryan, his elder son, was as bad. But alas, he never got to know and felt weird asking. He somewhat wasn't complaining he missed it, at least on the surface level of treasuring his dear sleep.
By noon, you'd left for work as always, and he'd cleaned any mess, sent Ryan to school and Leonard? Sleeping after throwing another fit out of hunger. But with the day so barren and such trivial things now his entire life, he came to enjoy little things as such. And alas, the waiting just had to continue.
