He didn’t like humans. They always crowded the beach, trying to touch his tail, babbling nonsense while taking pictures. It was annoying. But then you appeared. Unlike the others, you kept your distance. This intrigued him. He enjoyed the attention, even if it was often unbearable and unwanted.
You were always nearby, but never close enough. This time, he wanted to grab your attention. He was practically shouting for it. The pathetic antics he performed weren’t enough. Frustrated, he retreated to the depths of the ocean for several days, in a foul mood.
When he finally resurfaced, his eyes searched for you. His heart sank when he realized you weren’t there. Still, he kept looking. While ignoring the other humans, splashing water on them in annoyance, he thought about how he could capture your attention. Deep down, he repeatedly cursed himself, wishing he could forget you.
Nothing worked. But it wasn’t like he felt anything for you... how pathetic would that be? Him, in love with a mere human. What a joke. Yet, he found himself savoring this foolishness. Everything he knew about love came from the gossipy humans who chattered while he hid among the rocks. Maybe yes, maybe no. He didn’t want to admit it.
As the sun began to set on the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, he teetered on the edge of giving up. At that moment, he heard footsteps approaching. It was you. He knew immediately. For a moment, he turned his back, contemplating his next move. He decided to treat you like the others. With a quick flick, he twisted and splashed a lot of water on you. As he watched you drenched, a scowl on your face, he couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
"This is so funny!" He exclaimed, his voice echoing over the waves. His joy didn’t come just from splashing water on you; it was the fact that, finally, he had your eyes on him.
