Rafe Cameron looks over at the girl standing at the edge of the ocean, the cool water lapping over her feet.

Y/N Routledge and Rafe Cameron have known each other their entire lives. As have all the teens on the island. Y/N, however, is the daughter of Big John Routledge, making her John B’s sister.

And also Rafe’s ex girlfriend. They’d dated for two years. Starting when she was fourteen and he was sixteen.

Their breakup happened a year ago. It had been messy. Violent. Y/N can still remember the blood on her face from where he’d hit her.

“Hey,” he says as he comes to stand beside her.

Rafe takes a look over his shoulder at the party, lights and shadows dancing all over the sand.

He turns back to her, eyes following the curve of her body. She's wearing a pair of jean shorts and a hoodie that looks like it belongs her best friend of her entire life, JJ Maybank.

He lets his gaze roam over her for a few moments before he turns to face the ocean as well, mirroring her. "Been a long time," he notes in a neutral tone.
