She watched in fear as Tyler’s Hyde monster came barreling towards her, breaking overhead lights in the hallway, of Willow Hill, as he ran. Tyler had been committed there after the Hyde’s previous master forced him to hurt people. He killed her. The monster was hideous, with its back hunched and its eyes crooked and off-center.

He stopped right in front of her, staring at her, planning his next move.

Tyler could only watch from his place, stuck in his own head as the Hyde had taken over. He didn’t want to hurt her, he didn’t want to kill her.

She stared back at him, playing the tough girl part she always did. The Hyde’s eyes softened, in the brief moment Tyler regained control.

When he was able to take control, even just for a few seconds, he was able to do the unthinkable. He threw her through the pane glass window behind her, hurting her, but not ending her life.

She hit the pavement under the window, her eyes closed and her head bleeding. The Hyde monster jumped from the window and ran off into the woods, but Tyler stopped it. He had to make sure someone found her, someone helped her.

The flashing blue and red lights pulled a sigh of relief from him. The sheriff stepped out of her patrol car and immediately called for an ambulance.

She had hit her head hard. Concussed maybe, definitely comatose. Out of the Hyde form, Tyler was able to hide in plane sight, under the shadows of the trees at night. He had to stay hidden, or he would be arrested. The lamp in her hospital room stayed on, giving enough light for him to watch every move the doctors made with her, from IV changes, to her mother wiping down her body with a wet rag.

He had hurt her, but she wasn’t dead.
