Enid spent most of her time isolated in her room after rescuing Wednesday from The Hyde and leaving the hospital. The scars she received were severe. Tyler had caused more damage than she initially realised. During the adrenaline rush of that night, she didn’t fully feel the pain. Later, she discovered that half of her face was now scarred and her left eye was partially blind. Even eating had become challenging due to the damage to her lip.
She knew that others’ would gossip and that it would follow her everywhere. It was inevitable. Being one of the most popular bloggers in Nevermore Academy only exacerbated the problem. Wednesday made several attempts to persuade Enid to leave the room with her usual directness, but Enid stayed firm, refusing to step out of the protection haven of the four walls she had found shelter in. The fear of being judged has held her captive.
But eventually, she could not stay locked in her room forever. She had to confront her fears and challenges head on. When the new school term started and everybody returned to Nevermore Academy, Enid was astonished to discover that everyone respected her. Even though she was still insecure about her scars, she realized that no one would mock her for them.
While walking through the hallway to her next class, Enid kept her head down, a habit born out of self-consciousness. Despite knowing that her classmates didn't make fun of her scars, she still instinctively sought to hide them. However, it turned out to be a grave error. Enid accidentally bumped into someone, and upon looking up, she discovered a face she didn't recognize. They were adorned in the standard school uniform, yet Enid hadn't seen them before, and she thought she knew everyone. With a chuckle, she apologized, “Oh, sorry about that. I don't recognize you - you must be the new student.”
