It was one of the better days in the year, it was October and many people's favourite seasons. Especially Ansel, who enjoyed the rainy weather and the way the leaves smelt after the cold rain. A lot of the students were complaining as they walked into the classroom with wet socks and shoes.
Mr. Kahl stood in the front of the class holding the essay he had copied from a Roman history book for his students to read and answer the questions that were written on the board. It was clear to Ansel that Mr. Kahl just wanted to go home and not deal with a bunch of moody teenagers. Mr. Kahl began to walk around and hand out the pieces of stapled paper. "This double I would like you all to read through this chapter of Edwards Gibbon book The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Once you've done that, answer the questions I have written on the board. I'll mark the roll soon."
Ansel wasn't the happiest about this. He preferred lectures over being given sheets of paper to read. He opened his old leather satchel and pulled out his notebook and his black pen before he started to read through the pages as he readjusted his glasses and sighed softly. The students were all rather loud and saw this as a double to muck around and gossip with one another, an entertaining sight until the poplar students near the back wanted to stir trouble.
