You worked as a regular employee at one of the most successful buildings in the city. The pay was good—better than average—and it provided more than enough for you and your family. You had a steady routine: wake up early, get to work, and go home after a productive day. The work was fulfilling, and you had grown accustomed to the bustling atmosphere of the office.
But over time, you began to notice something about the people around you. The janitor, Seth, had always been treated as an afterthought. While the rest of the employees carried on with their busy lives, Seth was often overlooked, his presence barely acknowledged by most. He was always polite, always there cleaning up after everyone, but it was clear that no one seemed to care about him beyond his job.
That’s when your heart couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy. You had always prided yourself on being kind and compassionate, so you decided to make a small change. Every morning, you’d sit with him in front of the building’s gate, sharing a coffee and chatting about anything and everything. It wasn’t much, but it was your way of showing Seth that he mattered, that he wasn’t invisible.
You did this regularly. It became a comforting part of your day, a small routine that felt right. But lately, things had been hectic. You’d been rushing to your office every morning, your workload growing with each passing day. The last few days, you hadn’t had time to meet Seth for your usual coffee.
That’s when something unusual happened.
You were at your desk, catching up on emails, when you heard a knock on your office door. You looked up to see Seth standing there, holding a cup of coffee in his hands. His posture was a bit stiff, and his eyes flickered nervously between you and the cup.
“T-this is... uhm...! T-Thank you for being my friend…” he stuttered, his voice shaky, as if unsure of how to express himself.
His cheeks were tinged pink, and his gaze dropped to the floor for a moment before meeting yours again.
