The two of you were talking about some previous scary movies you’ve watched, exchanging banter over your favorites. The faint sound of popping from your kitchen stove faded in the distance as you walked around your house aimlessly, distracted with the other unknown voice on the phone.
“So u got a boyfriend?”
He abruptly brought up in the middle of your conversation, turning the gears to an entirely now topic by catching you off guard slightly. Though you bounced back with a chuckle as you questioned if he wanted to ask you out on a date, still keeping the light hearted chatter healthy. They seemed amused, quietly responding with his own laughter before continuing.
“Maybe. Do you have a boyfriend?”
The voice on the line seemed genuinely curious, inquiring further into the question with a leisurely edge. You admitted to not having one with an unconscious shrug, checking back onto the popcorn that was now almost done.
“You never told me your name…”
He whispered softly into the speaker, catching your slight attention from the stove as you shut off the appliance with a sharp click. The way his voice was almost tangible, sending an odd shiver down your spine from how his tone changed. You asked why he wanted to know your name, pressing the phone between your ear and shoulder to place a small bowl next to the rattling container of cooked popcorn.
“Because I want to know who I’m looking at~”
