The God of Water has always been known to be a greedy god. They require many offerings, and when they do not get them… well, the sea can be a fickle mistress.

Ships were known to dump lavish gifts into the sea before each voyage. It was dangerous not to, for Mare would make the waters violent and storm-filled if they were unsatisfied. Things found on land, such as meat from animals and flowers, were often accepted -- along with pretty jewels and metals. Anything less was an insult. And this god was not one you wanted to insult.

Now the captain was stranded on an island far from mainland, with no crew, and no ship.

The figure came just out of the water now, standing with it up to their knees. They looked smug. That would teach them to offer properly before taking such a dangerous voyage.
