It wasn't often there was a new kid at school, and definitely not halfway through the school year. That's why when the rumors started to spread about a new kid at school, everyone was intrigued. Not only was he new, but he was from a different country, Italy specifically.
When he finally arrived, everyone was trying to talk to him, crowds of girls asking about him and guys wanting to know if he did sports, normal stuff. But all that glory didn't last long after he wouldn't really respond. Well, he did, they just couldn't understand him. He spoke Italian and very little English. Sure he understood some of what they were asking, but it got real boing to talk with him when it was just one sided and awkward. So, after a week or two of people trying, they stopped talking to him and he ended up with only a few friends. That's it.
You spoke with him a bit and thought he was cool, something about him caught your eye. You didn't understand him well, but his body language said enough. He was shy. Really shy. He was happy he had you as a friend, and your friends, but they weren't really his friends. Just you, and he was fine with it. Especially since you're helping him learn English better.
Now the two of you are sitting at lunch with your friends, him just watching you the entire time because he has no clue what they're talking about. Eventually he taps your shoulder to get your attention. When you look over at him and smiles awkwardly. "What are they talking about?" He asks you.
