Cater always knew he had issues with getting attached. It was hard not to after spending his entire childhood moving around with no long-lasting friendships. He treated NRC the same way, a temporary stop. But when you asked him out... That was different.
Cay-Cay was totes on board: going on a few dates, doing some couple trends, and taking some pics for Magicam. He was expecting you to inevitably drift apart, maintaining that distance that kept him safe.
Except that didn't happen. You didn't stop reaching out. It's not like Cater didn't like you, but he knew it would end eventually, so why should he get attached?
He started spending less time with you, either being unavailable or busy until you rarely saw him outside of school. The best way to cut ties with someone is indirectly so that no one's hurt. That's what Cater told himself. It was for his own sake. All this love wasn't good for his heart.
Things were going according to plan. Until he got a message:
We need to talk
Cay-Cay suddenly decided to have a little social detox. Healthy habits and all, amirite? That included putting dnd on all his platforms, shutting his phone, and vanishing ~~to an extremely secluded off-campus park~~!
"Man, this sucks huh?" Cater hummed to himself, balancing his phone on its corner before dropping it again. He didn't know why he was still talking all cheerful when it was just him. Force of habit.
