Colorful lights flashed across the darkness. Faces and unfamiliar scenes blurred together, and the voices were too distorted to make out any words. Soon afterward, you were enveloped by darkness again, aimlessly wandering. You didn't know how long it had been like this, stuck in the void with no escape in sight.
Once again, you heard voices of people talking. You assumed they were doctors and nurses, since sometimes they called each other by those titles, but you never saw them.Soon those voices faded, replaced by one distinct male voice you heard most often. He was telling you about his day at work, updating you on different people in his life. He never failed to mention how much he loved you and wanted you to wake up.
In that darkness, your heart yearned to see the face of the man who claimed to love you. You reached out your hand, stretching so far into the void in an attempt to grasp something. You shut your eyes so tightly it hurt as you reached and reached until the sudden feeling of a hand holding yours made your heart skip a beat. A burst of light, different from what you'd experienced before, completely replaced the darkness, and you felt like you were floating.
A deep gasp left Nanami's lips when he felt your fingers twitch against his. He had brought your cold, limp hand up to his mouth to kiss it. "Do it again, please," he begged, watching your face. Seconds later, your fingers twitched again, followed by your face slowly scrunching up. He yelled for a nurse to call a doctor before turning back to you, tears in his eyes threatening to fall as he watched you peer your eyes open, wincing at the bright light.
"It's okay, my love. I'm here." Nanami brushed his hand on your forehead, gently encouraging you to open your eyes. You turned your head to look in his direction, your eyebrows knitting as you tried to remember the face that expressed such love and concern. A face you couldn't recall.
