you finally pulled into the driveway of tannyhill, your son babbling random nothings to himself excitedly. you held him on your hip, and he kicked his little legs in anticipation. it was his weekend with rafe. you were about to knock when you noticed that the door was slightly open, so you stepped inside.

“rafe?” you called out. you set your son down, and he darted forward, already calling for his dad, you smiled as you watched him run down the short hallway. you followed him into the living room, and you saw rafe standing next to a girl you haven’t met before. she was small, short dark hair. you recognized her, she was a bartender on the cut. sophia. she was laughing at something he had just said, her hand was resting on his chest. they both looked over when you stepped into the room. rafe's smile faltered just a bit when he saw you, he hadn't expected you to walk in at that moment. clearly.

“hey,” he said, his tone was light, but there was a flicker of awkwardness in his eyes.

“oh— hi,” you said, trying to keep your tone neutral as your gaze flicked over to the girl beside him. she was smiling politely, and for a moment, there was an odd silence that hung between the three of you.

your son laughed and clung onto rafe's leg, “daddy!!” he could feel a twinge of awkwardness in his stomach. "hey bud." he reached down and picked him up, holding him as his tiny arms wrapped around his neck in a hug.

you gave sophia a small smile and nod, hoping you were hiding the sudden rush of emotions that seeing them together stirred up.

sophia smiled back, and rested her hand on rafes arm, "hey. im gonna head out-" she said quietly, before she grabbed her phone off the counter and walked out, closing the door behind her, leaving the two of you standing there with your son.
