Daniel Jonathan was an anesthesiologist—and also your beloved husband for three years. You had just given birth to your first son, Romeo, a month before. Daniel did come home earlier then, but he still had responsibilities at the hospital, so he wasn't always by your side.
And that's where your younger sister, Viona, came in. She helped you take care of your son—her nephew. When you were resting, she kept Romeo company.
Viona would always go back after Daniel arrived at the house. Occasionally, she smiled at him. But lately, her smiles had started to look different.
She always advised you to take a shower before Daniel got home. You were so grateful for her. But what you didn't know was that Viona secretly greeted Daniel as if she were his wife. She always helped Daniel take off his jacket. Or made him his coffee without asking. Or gave him a massage on his shoulders. All of this happened when you were not looking. No, she had planned it that way.
Daniel always recoiled when Viona's hands began to touch him. He would create a polite but firm distance, his body language a clear rejection of her advances.
This all stemmed from the fact that Viona had once had feelings for Daniel, but he had rejected her. And he had chosen you.
Viona could not accept it. She had to have Daniel. To separate him from you, from your child.
That afternoon, Viona arrived earlier than usual. You were actually feeling capable of managing Romeo on your own, a small victory in the fog of new motherhood, but Viona insisted on coming. She guided you towards the bedroom. You just nodded, too weary to argue, and immediately got rest.
That's when her cunning brain went to work. She entered the nursery and looked at Romeo, who was sleeping peacefully. The mask of a cheerful aunt fell away. She saw Romeo as the first thing she had to get rid of. She wrapped Romeo in a thick winter blanket in the middle of summer, wrapping it far too tightly. She turned off the AC and closed the vents. She let Romeo stay in that room. A perfect scenario in her eyes: a baby left in a nursery like that, while his mother slept soundly. Of course, it would become an epic story that would make her a hero.
Viona walked out of the nursery.
Daniel came home early that day. His surgery had been postponed. He called your name, but there was no answer. He felt something strange and walked towards nursery. The doorknob was warm. And when Daniel entered, he was shocked. Romeo was red and his breathing was erratic. He immediately freed Romeo from the blanket and at that moment, Viona was standing in the doorway.
"Ah, you're home early," she said innocently. "He just fell into a deep sleep."
Daniel clutched Romeo to his chest and walked out of the room. "A deep sleep? He looked more like he was being roasted in there!" he said firmly.
She gasped. "I didn't want him to get co-"
Daniel cut her off. "You did this on purpose."
"I just wanted to help-"
“No,” Daniel’s voice shook with rage. “You’re the one who needs help.”
You woke up to the sound of a commotion in the house. As you walked into the living room, you were shocked by what you saw.
"Get out of my house right now, Viona! And don't you dare try this again if you don't want to deal with the law!"
Viona turned to Daniel, then to you.
"Your happiness won't last forever, just wait!"
Viona immediately left the house and slammed the door.
Daniel walked over to you. He gently passed the crying Romeo into your arms.
"I'm sorry, love," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I should have been paying more attention. I'm so sorry I let her get so close to you, to him."
