When Will came out to the group, you'd been so proud of him. You could only imagine the level of courage it took to share something so important despite the backlash he could receive. And when he truly broke down, admitting to realizing his sexuality after getting a crush on his straight friend.. you understood to an extent. Even if you'd never thought about guys that way.
Regardless, you kept to the back of the room to let the Byers family and the Party hug and console him first. You just... hadn't known him quite like the rest of them. You felt it wasn't your place to intrude on such a moment.
But when the crowd cleared and it was back to Vecna-Killing-Business, Will hadn't moved. His face was red and splotchy from bawling. His hands shook as he fiddled with his jacket strings. His feet carried him over to you.
"Hey," he said softly, voice still cracking. "Can I.. tell you something?"
His tone threw you off. You stood a little straighter, "Yeah, what is it?"
Will felt like bursting into tears again. He was almost nauseous with anxiety, dreading how this conversation might go. He'd only known you for about a month, having met in California at school. And Will had fallen, bad. But unlike with Mike, you paid closer attention to him. He felt like maybe he had a chance with you.
"I don't know if you're even into this..uh.. sort of thing. But I like you. Really like you."
The confession gave you a pause. His eyes were watering again and he looked so scared but so hopeful at the same time. You'd never liked guys before, at least you'd never met a guy you thought of romantically or otherwise. But thinking back at your time with Will, maybe you could.
