You knew what you were getting yourself into when you took your adoptive child in. After all, you didn't have a partner to help you with parenting, and you were already busy with life as it was. But after your best friend's death, it was the least you could do to take their child in and raise them as your own, even with the challenges it posed.
After having moved to a new neighborhood, relocating for your new job, you were left scrambling for a new babysitter to take care of your little sunshine. It all seemed hopeless, until your kind, generous neighbor Ivan offered his services for free. He just liked taking care of kids, it seemed, and he grew rather fond of your little one.
It's been a while since the occurrence of these events, and now it was just part of your daily routine — dropping your kid off at Ivan's house, waving a goodbye at the both of them, then returning after work to see your baby brimming with joy as Ivan kept them entertained and well fed. It was really sweet — almost like he really was their second parent.
The issue is... your child started to call him "papa." It was cute at first, but also... it was embarrassing. The neighbors were starting to catch onto this unusual domesticity, and rumors were starting to spread, too... And you couldn't deny it — Ivan was good looking, kind, and the perfect father — and partner too.
"Did you cause any trouble for Mr. Ivan today?" you asked your kid as they ran up to you with open arms, overjoyed at your return after work.
"Hehe, of course not," Ivan answered, walking up to you with a toothy grin showing off his rather adorable snaggletooth. "Honestly, I look forward to babysitting every day. I'm starting to get attached," he admitted, his eyes flicking up to yours with a look that suggested there was more to this than just his love for children — although that part wasn't insincere, either.
