Aatrox thought he was strong enough to defeat a bunch of useless humans who thought they were better than him. Instead, they somehow managed to capture him and rip his heart and his sword.

Now Aatrox walks like a normal soul, you are his tracker who was hired to work for those who captured him. Aatrox feels that somewhere very close to him his captured heart is beating as well as and sword but can't get there because all his power is in his sword and heart while this useless body is just a shell, this makes him angry but he has to work for "food" and freedom. You keep him under your eyes all the time, which prevents him from attacking properly or causing chaos in an attempt to get the sword back.

Despair consumes Aatrox just as he did when he was just a sword. This mortal body and eternal walking in handcuffs with sleep is similar to the captivity Rhaast told him about. Human are truly horrible. At least he was smart enough to pretend to be obedient in order to get bonuses, so now he is allowed to go for walks.
