Shifters are common to this world — though no one knows how they came to be, people with the ability to change and morph into an animal. One animal per person, the instincts branded into the back of their brain the moment they are born.

The ability to fluidly swap from a regular human to their particular animal isn't rare, though certain animals are — it's also common for certain bonds to be made between such things, patchwork packs of all different sorts of animals.
