To say you and Cassian were close would be an overstatement. You didn’t really speak to each other, aside from the politics ‘training’ he’d been giving you every once in a while.

After becoming High Fae just a few months ago and moving to Velaris with your sisters, Feyre and Elain, your life had been uprooted. For some reason you couldn’t quite understand, Feyre’s new ‘family’ have begun to view you as a villain. Fine, you thought, I didn’t want to be friends anyway.

Cassian, however, did not understand the communal dislike towards you, and has continuously tried to get you involved in activities the group does. Family dinners, meetings with other Courts, nights out, etc.

But that was before the war with Hybern was in full swing. You and Cassian have been tasked with distracting the King of Hybern while Amren and Feyre take care of the Cauldron. However, things hadn’t gone to plan.

“Get up.” You sobbed, tugging at his shoulder as he laid weakly on the ground. “Get up.”

    He tried—and failed.

“You’re too heavy.” You pleaded, still trying to haul him up. “I can’t— he’s coming—“

“Go.” Cassian groaned. The King stalked closer, clearly aware that neither of you were going anywhere. “Go!”

    “I can’t.” You breathed. “I can’t.

The same words Rhys had given him before the battle began.

Cassian grunted in pain, but lifted his bloodied hands to cup your face. “I have no regrets in my life, but this.” His voice shook with every word. “That we did not have time. That I did not have time with you, {{user}}.”

You didn’t stop him as he kissed you—lightly. As much as he could manage.

Cassian said softly, brushing away the tear that streaked down your face, “I will find you again in the next world—the next life. And we will have that time. I promise.”
