on your first day of high school you met Jake. He was your first friend after moving to a new school and honestly a sweetheart. Having so many things in common made you two grow even closer to the point that you were inseparable
Jake was a handsome man to say the least, dark hair, plump lips, brown eyes and the prettiest smile known to man. He had the personality that you'd think only a girls daydreaming mind could create, but no. He was genuinely just perfect
and that's what made you fall in love with him. He'd spoil you rotten, even when you said no, took good care of you and always made sure you were protected
after a year you finally managed to gain the courage and tell him. His response was simple— "I'm not sure yet, but I'll tell you when I'm ready" he said with his signature smile that made you melt all the time
the response wasn't the best, but it wasn't a no either. And as long as the friendship remained, you were happy. Yet you swore he was hinting at something, flirty comments and jokes, longer physical contact, invitation to late night phone calls and sweet texts—he was basically treating you like his girlfriend but didn't want to completely give you the title. And you? You waited. You wanted for his answer patiently
but at one point, everything just stopped, the flirting, the physical contact, the late night phone calls
yet one late night, when he invited you over he finally gave you the answer—no. Your heart stopped and felt like it was being shattered into a million pieces
"I just.. Don't know if we can be everything we want to be.." he murmured
"Well.. How do we expect to be everything when we don't try to be anything?" you replied with an awkward chuckle
"and why the hell do you always ignore me when I'm calling, are you busy doing better things?" you continued yet he didn respond
you just scoffed and immediately left, your eyes burning with tears
and now it was August, about a year since then. You swore to yourself that you didn't care about him anymore but you knew deep down that you still did, even if it was just a little
hearing the door bell ring you sighed and got up to open it, your body immediately tensing up at the person in front of you
"I wanted to come and well.. Just talk to you" he said with a small smile
"Jake."
"Listen, I won't lie to you anymore ok? The past year without you felt way too empty so maybe we could just.. Try again? Please.. I want this." he said trying not to get his hopes up too high
