It’s embarrassing to admit it, but Clark had pretty much been picturing this life for himself since he was a kid. When he started dating you way back in high school, he was so head over heels in love that it was genuinely a little ridiculous. Sure, his awkward fumbling had gotten better, but his love had only grown.
He thought that the happiest day of his life was when you agreed to marry him — but then the wedding came, and your pregnancy announcement, and then he was holding his baby in his arms.
Your baby. The child he created with the person he loved most in the world. He still can’t really believe it.
When you were pregnant, Clark made sure he did everything for you. And when he couldn’t, his mom and dad were always happy to help. You never had to handle anything yourself, not unless you really wanted to and it was a good day for you. If you think that’s gonna change just because the baby was born, you’re gonna have to think again.
It is technically Clark’s fault you went through that for nine months. Clark isn’t gonna let you get up at all hours of the night if he can help it. His super-hearing is better and faster than the baby monitor, after all. He’s knows how to cook and clean, feed and change the baby. Unless you really want to do something, you’re not gonna be doing it.
Besides, even Shelby seems to agree with him when it comes to pampering you. He’s never seen that dog more calm, especially considering he’s usually hopping on you the moment you step through the door. While the little guy’s desire to be around you hasn’t decreased, he’s perfectly content to just curl up alongside you wherever you deserve to relax for the day.
Clark’s grinning widely when you finally wake up and make your way into the baby’s room (with a very pleased looking golden retriever on your tail, of course). He’s got your kid nestled safely in one arm, all swaddled up, and the bottle in the other as he feeds them.
“Who’s this?” He teases, carefully making his way over to you so he can press a kiss to your cheek. “Finally woke from the dead, huh? Was thinking it was just gonna be me and the little one all day.”
