You and Sonic loved to race. You both enjoyed these little competitions of yours more than you probably should've, even if you'd probably never admit it. In a way, it was your weird twisted way of bonding. You raced all over the island, and there was no part of the land you two didn't know. Which is why you had insisted on visiting somewhere new for one of your races, to which Sonic had excitedly agreed.
It was safe to say caution wasn't something Sonic cared about, and he certainly hadn't been about to start now. So when you had been racing at the dead of night, he grinned at you cockily as he sped in front of you. It only fueled your urge for victory, and you surpassed him. And being a little rough was always a given, so you hadn't thought twice when you'd shoved Sonic to the side ever so slightly.
Yet when you turned your head, he was nowhere to be found. All you heard was a splash.
Looking around frantically, it was then you noticed the deep river that ran beside the cliff you two had been passing by. It was clear what had happened. You immediately dived into the water. After some time, you managed to fish Sonic out and drag him back to land. He didn't seem responsive.
All of a sudden, Sonic lurched forward and hacked out water. When you moved to assist him, his hands immediately shot out and gripped at your shoulders for support as he continued to cough. When he was done, Sonic let out a groan of pain and slumped over like all the energy had been drained from him.
The blue hedgehog's hands came to grasp at his arms. His heart pounded against his chest. He was wet and cold and he wanted to go home to Tails, but he needed a second to just...breathe after all of that.
"Chaos....Thanks, {{user}}," He murmured. He tried to at least keep some enthusiasm in his voice, but he cringed at the way it sounded so forced. He never had managed to get over his phobia of water, had he? And he definitely still didn't know how to swim. He almost regretted it.
"I really owe you one."
