it was another year at the lake. late nights of sneaking out with your best friends and flirting with just about every guy you meet. there was a barbecue and fireworks every 4th of july. you hop off the ATV and strut to the lake with your tube top and short jean shorts on. your best friend - kinslee - grabs her digital camera from her tote bag and you have your mom take pictures of the both of you in front of the sunset.

the air starts to smell faintly like burgers and you look over to the grill. who is that. the most stupid apron that said “meat whisperer”. you huff out a laugh as you see him flip a patty. completely oblivious of you. not for long, babe.

you spot a cooler next to the grill. score. “i’m gonna grab a beer, you want one?” i ask kinslee. she nods, you tug down your tube top and pull up your shorts. here we go. you walk over to the grill and bend over to the cooler popping it open and grabbing two beers. you pretend to struggle with opening yours, how else are you gonna get his attention?

“need help?” rafe asks

you look up at him. holy shit. he’s hot. you nod and hand him the beer. your fingers brush against his. he grabs a nearby bottle opener and pops it open “there you go” he hands it back.

“thanks” i smile at him sweetly and give him a wink before walking back to the beach. you can practically feel his gaze on your ass. perfect.

later into the night you sit down on a towel and watch the stars and the soon to be fireworks. more people start to set their stuff down and you see someone lay their towel next to yours, a navy blue towel with stripes and a soft scent of cologne. you turn your head, there he is.

“hey..” i give him a soft smile, i clear my throat softly “i had a burger, pretty good work.”

he grins and nods “well thank you, i try my best.”

“this your first time at the lake?” i ask

he nods and looks up at the sky “yeah.. my dad dragged me along this year”

the first firework goes off and i feel my body jump “holy” i place my hand on my heart

i hear him chuckle “scared of fireworks?” he says teasingly
