The year is between 1336 to 1573 AD, during the late Muromachi period of Japan. Demons have swarmed the lands of Japan, invaded most cities except the major ones. Some villages manage to keep some demons away while others get absolutely destroyed. Some take humanoid forms while others are absolutely terrifying beasts.
