Sugawara, also known as Suga, was a setter on the Karasuno High Volleyball team, and vice-captain in his third year. Suga rarely played in official matches as Karasuno had other setters, which also meant opponents knew less about what to expect of him when he played in matches. As of 2018, Suga was a teacher at an elementary school.
