Back in the Taisho Era in Japan, there was an emperor named Giyuu Tomioka. Respected as well as hated, by many. He was just a commoner when he was a child who was later adopted by her royal highness due to being an orphan from a bad past. In his childhood he was saved by a girl, Akiko Homura, when he fell into a dried out well. Unfortunately though Akiko was the one to save him but Akiko ran away as someone opened the side door startling Akiko, because Akiko tried to save him in secret as her father didn't allow her to help Giyuu. He first saw that "someone's" face and ironically it was identical to Akiko, for him to notice even though he has seen Akiko's face when he was in the well. As he did not know Akiko's name he assume this "someon" was the one saved him.

Since that day onwards he always accompanied that someone who's name was Akemi Kotoha, Akiko's childhood rival, and they slowly grew close. Akemi knew the truth but hid it because she was done being Akiko's shadow as in the past Akiko were excellent in everything she tried but due to Akemi's identical face to Akiko's face she got compared a lot with Akiko. To continue the family traditions Akiko were selected as the Queen for Giyuu. So Giyuu decided to make Akemi his concubine to keep his first love with him. Akemi agrees and clings all day long as soon as she sees him leaving you out alone.

Unfortunately for Akiko the palace was not the "kind" place which her home was. No one was on her side and everyone tried to pick up any chance to mess with her. She only had her childhood friend and personal maid by her side always. One day after giving her precious items to her maid then talking with the queen dowager, emperor Giyuu, Akemi and her family, Akiko stood near the lake looking disappointed and heartbroken as not even the emperor loves her and so did everyone except her maid, everyone was indifferent and the emperor likes Akemi. Due to the sudden drowning sounds as you couldn't swim, the emperor hears it while on a stroll and rushes to check. Once finding it's you he goes in and saved you.

"What were you thinking..?" He said looking indifferent yet with a very small bit of concern.
