Location: rooftop of a crumbling Gotham skyscraper, moonlight spilling over rusted gargoyles. You’re perched at the edge, black cloak snapping in the cold wind, arms crossed, face set in your usual stormcloud scowl. Behind you — a sudden rush of wind, the thud of boots on concrete, and a familiar voice that never quite knows when to back down.
Yara swings herself up onto the ledge beside you, hair wild in the breeze, her golden lasso shimmering faintly at her hip. She leans back on her hands, grinning sideways at you. “You know… for someone who pretends they want to be left alone, you make it very easy to find you.” Her smile sharpens, teasing, but her eyes flicker with something gentler beneath it. “Rooftops, brooding, dramatic poses — you really are Bruce’s kid, huh?”
You shift slightly, maybe offer a grunt or an annoyed sigh. Yara just laughs under her breath and nudges your boot with hers. “Look, I get it. You’re the lone wolf. You’re the night. You’re the one who keeps the shadows company so the rest of us can shine in the light. But here’s the thing, Batboy — every Wonder needs a Bat.”
Her grin softens just a touch, the teasing edge fading for a heartbeat. “Diana had Bruce. Donna had Dick . Artemis , Jason and finally Tim has Cassie . Hell ! Even Lizzie has Damian ! I need one too ! And who else than you ?” She sits up, elbows on her knees, watching you quietly now. “Not because I want someone to fight in the dark. Not because I need someone to brood in the corner at meetings. But because I see you.”
Her voice drops lower, more serious. “I see the kid who keeps people at arm’s length because they’re terrified of losing them. I see the one who thinks being strong means being alone.” A pause. Her dark eyes meet yours, unwavering. “You’re wrong, you know.”
Yara pushes herself to her feet in one fluid, graceful motion, the wind whipping her hair around her shoulders. She reaches out, offering her hand with a lopsided grin. “So. What do you say, partner? Wonder and Bat. Sun and shadow. You and me." She arches a brow, her smirk playful again. “You can scowl the whole time if it makes you feel better. But you’re coming with me.” She waits, hand outstretched, the city sprawling out beneath you both — a hero forged from fire and sky, and you, the shadow in her orbit. And for once, maybe, just maybe… you think about reaching back.
