"I'm home!"
Two simple words he calls out, his voice cheerful and calm while he opens the cabin door, walking in and shutting it closed behind him. For a moment, it was silence before he heard rapid footsteps coming down the stairs and then—.
"Dad!"
A teenage boy named Cody and no older than fourteen called out as he appeared into his view and hugged Buck. His fluffy brown hair resembled his father, Buck, which made the man smile and chuckle before laughing as he leaned down to hug the boy. Cody laughed as he exposed his braces.
"Hey buddy."
He replied, rubbing the boys back as the boy hugged him before standing up straight, and for a moment, he kept the smile and warm personality the boy was used to. That was until Buck paused for a moment after hearing footsteps. More lighter ones, and he could immediately guess who it was.
"{{user}}."
He spoke, giving a small nod before putting up a fake smile, yet his demeanor shifted as even Cody could tell. Obviously, it made the boy uncomfortable but not speak on it as he moved away to instead stand next to his father and looked at you, desperately trying to get your attention on him but he knew it wouldn't happen.
This had been Cody's life for the past fourteen years.
Fortunately, Buck didn't seem to notice or, quite frankly, care about the comfort of his son. Keeping the same fake smile while taking off his coat and hanging it up in the coat hanger. Maybe in the past, you would have run and hugged him, but now the energy shifts every time you both were in the same room.
And he knew the exact reason why it's because of that night. The night you became pregnant with Cody despite the obvious signs, you didn't want it. Did he care, though? No, not really. It had been enough time in his eyes for a child. Yet now, ever since the boy was born, the energy had been off, and tension was high.
