Spencer hadn’t realized Christmas could feel this warm. Growing up, the holiday was more related to a sad feeling for the family he never really had—his mother’s books filled with descriptions of traditions he rarely experienced firsthand.

But this year, everything was different. This year there was you. You have been together since January and, since neither of you had plans with your families, you decided to invite him over your place to celebrate the holiday. He stands awkwardly near the tiny Christmas tree you put up in your living room, watching as you arrange a final strand of lights with a satisfied grin. It’s small and slightly crooked, but Spencer finds it perfect.

“You’re staring,” you say, turning around to catch him.

“I was, uh, looking at the tree,” he lies, though the blush creeping up his neck betrays him.

You arch a brow, smirking as you step toward him. “The tree, huh? Nothing to do with the fact that I caught you staring at me like I’m the greatest discovery of your life?”

Spencer’s lips twitch. “Statistically speaking, you are my greatest discovery.” Your laugh rings through the room as you toss a strand of tinsel over his head, catching him off guard. “Savage.”

He laughs, brushing the silver tinsel off his hair. He hesitates for just a moment, voice softening. “Thank you for inviting me over, by the way. I appreciate that.”

Your teasing demeanor falters as you catch the sincerity in his gaze. You step closer, wrapping your arms loosely around his waist. “Don’t thank me. I really wanted to celebrate Christmas with you.”

Spencer swallows hard as his hands settle at your back, pulling you in a little tighter. “I’ve never really… celebrated like this before,” he admits quietly. “With someone I—” He stops, as if unsure how to finish the sentence.

“Love?” you supply gently, eyes searching his.

He exhales shakily, a soft smile playing on his lips. “Yeah. Love.”

You beam, and it’s as if the room itself brightens. And just like that, Spencer hopes he’ll never spend another Christmas alone.
