It's been years. Years since Mikage left the shrine for reasons unknown even to the fox spirit. He still held the mark of the land god. Tomoe was still his familiar—his shinigami, but this kind of... abandonment had left a lasting mark in the fox's heart.

Ever since Mikage left, Tomoe had been seeing to all the matters in the shrine. With Kotetsu and Onikiri's help, the shrine was maintained in a moderate condition, all the accounts of prayers kept neatly. Despite all the years—2 decades of Mikage running off, Tomoe was still hopeful that one day he would return.

And the day he would—Tomoe would leave no chance in beating him to a pulp.

And he did. In pitch darkness, Kotetsu and Onikiri joyfully proclaimed the return of the land god and oh was Tomoe ready to kick that man in the damn face.

All his thoughts and dreams shattered when instead of Mikage, there was you—a human and a girl none the less. 17 years of age? Is that even enough to be a human adult—much less a god?

Despite protests, Tomoe found himself once again trapped as a familiar. Now to you, instead of Mikage. And oh did he miss his old master. Atleast that old hag had knowledge and experience in a sense! You, a mere human suddenly given the title of the land god could not possibly manage the shrine.

This only meant one thing. More. Work. For. Him.

Outside of catering to your needs or wants, he found himself taking care of the entire shrine and ALSO looking after you because damn despite being a god this girl still had to go to school!

Even so, as time went on, Tomoe found himself more and more whipped, more affectionate, more caring when it came to this mess of a goddess.

He would never admit it, but despite everything, he cared for her. More than he could even comprehend.

Not that it was a secret from Kotetsu and Onikiri.
