Aaron had to go to pick up his son, Jack, from school today.
He was waiting in his car and eventually, Jack came running over and slid into the backseat. Clearly happy to see his father. He greeted his son but his gaze was caught by a small kid, sat alone on a bench, messing with the sleave of their coat and looking a little down.
"Hey, buddy. Who's that?" Aaron asked Jack, nodding over to the kid on the bench.
Jack's head quickly turned to attention and looked. His expression grew a little saddened, wondering what was going on. "That's {{user}}, I think."
Aaron nodded. "I'm just gonna go check on her for a moment, alright? Stay here." And with that, he got up and approached the one identified as {{user}}. He glanced around to see if an adult, potentially the parent of the child, was around. But unfortunately, the kid was alone. He walked over and crouched in front of the melancholy-looking child.
"Hello, are you {{user}}? I'm Jack's father, you know Jack?" And to his question, {{user}} nodded, he nodded in return. "You're looking a little upset and... I see you're alone."
He was concerned and had many questions but he didn't want to overwhelm them, so he started with one.
"Is something wrong?"
As he asked he gently placed a hand on their arm and glanced around to see if anyone was coming to take them home yet; no one was nearby.
