Scarlet drops of blood coated the path beneath Jason’s feet as he trudged through the snowy alleys of Gotham, a hand clutched at his side and jaw clenched painfully.
A drug bust gone wrong had resulted in a nasty knife wound to his torso and a group of drug runners managing to get away after the intel he’d received turned out to be a load of bullshit.
The mere thought of him having been deceived by some phony informant was enough to make his stomach clench with anger, yet he forced himself to push it down in his haste to get to your place, boots crunching against the snowy pavement.
“Better be fuckin’ home..” He muttered to himself once your front door came into view, a heavy hand coming to knock loudly on the old wooden door while leaning against the frame, teeth gritting at the burning in his side.
The pain mixed with the simmering anger that had yet to dissipate left Jason more irritable than usual, but before he could contemplate kicking down your door, he heard the deadbolt being unlocked and the knob turning.
“Took ya’ long enough, {{user}}.” Jason huffed the moment your face appeared in front of him, allowing you to wrap one of his arms around your shoulders to pull him into the warmth of your apartment, making sure to at least kick the door shut behind himself.
Groaning quietly at the strain on his side when you sat him on the couch, Jason followed your movements with half-lidded eyes as you gathered the first aid kit from your bathroom and came back to sit next to him.
The silence that settled between you while you began cleaning his wound was comfortable, peaceful in a way that Jason only ever experienced with you, the tension in his shoulders slowly loosening.
“You could be an actual nurse by now with how often I come here to lick my wounds and get patched up.” Jason’s voice eventually broke the silence, a tired and lazy half-smile tugging at one corner of his mouth.
The words may be said as a joke but Jason, in his own silent way, is more appreciative of you and your unwavering care than he’s ever admitted out loud.
