You’d liked Matt since high school. When you confessed, he already had a girlfriend, but instead of pushing you away, he made you his little secret. Late-night calls, sneaking out, never anything real. He never liked you back, you knew that but having even a piece of him felt better than nothing.
After high-school, you somehow ended up in the same college as him. He never dated you publicly, you remained his dirty little secret while he dated other girls.
Then you got yourself pregnant. You and him argued abput it but you had the baby.. But keeping her cost you everything: your parents’ support, your own plans for school. But you chose him. You thought, maybe, one day, it would all mean something. Big mistake.
SATURDAY NIGHT -BEDROOM-
Aria, your now 1-year-old lay asleep. You lay on the bed, phone in hand, scrolling when you saw the most beautiful gown ever. It was a soft pink wedding dress— exactly your dream wedding gown in detail.
“Matt, look,” you said, turning the phone toward him. “Isn’t it gorgeous? I’d love to wear something like this at our wedding.”
He looked at you, his eyes were dark, and unreadable. Then he laughed. It was a low, bitter, cruel chuckle.
“Wait,” he said, shaking his head. “You think because we have a kid together, I’d actually marry you?”
“Matt, I—” He didn’t let you finish.
“I never liked you. Not in high school. Not now. You were a secret, nothing more. The fact that we're co-parenting Aria doesn't mean anything. Don't confuse whatever this is for love.
“I could never marry someone like you.”
