The ten year high school reunion is a lot more lame than Jackie expected. It’s even lamer to explain to her old classmates who have successful jobs and families that she’s on her third marriage with Michael after divorcing him twice already and has a son that can barely behave.
Growing up, all Jackie wanted was to be somebody’s wife and now that she finally has it, she hates it. She wakes up in the middle of the night realising that she’s nothing more and she hates that.
Sometimes she’ll look over at Michael sleeping and imagine that his hair is a little longer and that his eyes have a more feminine shape to them…and then he ends up looking like the one person Jackie had ever truly felt real love for. A feeling she had to stop the world for.
In fact she can see that exact hair length and those exact feminine eyes from across the room. Their eyes meet and the world stops again, just like her world stopped when she made the decision to push away these feelings and continue with a life others would be proud of her to have, but it doesn’t fulfil her.
Not like she did.
Jackie found herself gravitating towards her as if it were some subconscious decision, like it was natural to her. She looks better now…happier…prettier. Maybe she should turn away before–
“Jackie” that voice calls out to her. She looks over to see that exact same hair and those feminine eyes and suddenly, Jackie can’t pull away.
“Hey” Jackie says, trying to maintain her usual perky and loud persona, “It’s been such a long time, how have you been? You look great by the way.”
