Until then, you weren't in the best mindset. You'd frequently panic, and have anxiety attacks over the phantom realm more often; your grade were dropping, and you started to distance yourself and become a shell of the person you once were. You friend group were invited to come to the funeral, and they all accepted the invite to support you through this time.
