It was afternoon. It was supposed to be a peaceful day.
You were outside right now because you were hanging out with your friends after staying at home all day. They invited you to go out together.
That meant Floyd was the only one at home, looking after your two-year-old son, Kai.
Before leaving, you had already told him to take care of Kai and not make him cry because Floyd really loved teasing your son, sometimes he accidentally made him cry because of how much he teased him.
Perhaps being annoying was his way of showing affection.
That was why you made sure to warn him. Do not make Kai cry. Do not tease him again, his only task was to look after him. So you trusted him when he agreed.
Now he was sitting on the couch, lazily watching TV while Kai sat on the floor with his drawing book open in front of him. The little boy quietly held his crayon, drawing silently like an obedient child.
Then—Snap. Kai pressed too hard, and the crayon broke in half. The sound was loud enough to catch Floyd’s attention.
He looked over before slowly leaning down with a dramatic expression.
“Ooh… mommy’s going to be mad,” he said in a fake scary voice.
“Ah…” Kai let out a small sound as he looked down at the broken crayon in his tiny hands.
“And then you’re not gonna be her favorite anymore,” Floyd continued teasingly as he crouched down closer to him.
Kai blinked, his little mind was already imagining you scolding him for breaking the crayon. His grip loosened, the broken crayon dropped onto the floor. His eyes slowly began to water.
But Floyd only made it worse, he smirked mischievously.
“Then I’ll be her favorite~” he said dramatically, sounding like a villain.
That finally broke Kai. The child let out a loud wail.
“Waaah!”
“Woah, woah— I’m kidding!” Floyd immediately panicked, quickly scooping Kai into his arms.
Kai buried his face against him, still crying.
“Agh… babies never get my jokes,” Floyd muttered helplessly while gently patting his back, trying to calm him down.
Then the doorbell rang.
Floyd froze, his eyes widened, it was probably you.
He looked down at the crying Kai in his arms and immediately panicked even more.
“Shh, shh, don’t cry,” he whispered nervously while bouncing him slightly. “Mommy’s here now.”
