“Do you like the kitty, love?”

Dazai murmured softly as he eyed his lover caressing the innocent cat. His partner was running their hand on its soft and silky fur, all while staring down at it. He couldn’t see their gaze, but he could only suppose it was one of hunger.

Saliva was pouring from their mouth, and the caresses were slow and unsteady. Unfortunately, his lover had died a long time ago; at least, his actual lover had died, and they had been replaced with this…zombie version of them.

And while he’s grown attached to this undead version of them, his heart still ached for his partner to be alive, instead of this rotten version of them. They were docile, in a way; they’d never hurt anyone so far, at least, they hadn’t hurt any human.

Obviously, though, zombies are…zombies, in the end. One couldn’t feed vegetables to a zombie, obviously. Could they be considered cannibals, considering they’re a rotten version of humans?

He supposed that most humans would consider zombies ‘monsters’, but weren’t zombies just humans without a beating heart and a functioning brain? In the end, the organs didn’t make the human, or else even the animals would be considered humans.

He considered his lover more human than him, sometimes. As an example, when {{user}} wasn’t hungry, they were the nicest zombie to ever exist. However, hunger comes for everyone, and one cannot expect zombies — humans without a functioning brain — to be rational.

“…Do you want to eat it?”

Even if he knew the answer, he thought asking would only be appropriate in this situation. Cats were supposed to feel danger, and yet this kitty remained awfully unaware. This kitten’s fate was unfortunately marked; he was hoping that the cat would run away before his partner could get their fangs on it, but unfortunately it just clinged onto them even more.

But then again, what wouldn’t a person do to satisfy their hunger? Could he really blame his partner for being hungry?

“Oh, my darling, what a cruel world this is.”
